Your well-written post made me sad for you. I remember doing this exact thing with a new kitetn refusing to fall in love with her because so many had come and gone. Then one day, I just gave in. She didn't last any longer than the others, but I had tons of fun playing with her wild abandon for ribbons and hours and hours of soft-furry cuddles. Yes, it hurts to loose our loved ones. It about rips your heart out. But then, loving does the same thing in a better way it lifts us up to the heights of joy that nothing else does. When my good friend died of breast cancer last year, I knew it was coming. I was privileged to be her nurse the day she died. I was there to share THE MOST INTIMATE experience of life/death with her. When my mind goes back to that day, I grieve but in a special way I feel thankful to have known and loved her, to have been allowed to share in her final moments of living and for the legacy she has left me and her family to follow in her steps.Letting go of the fear of pain can open us to the joy of living. Pain is a given. Joy can be grasped as it passes, over and over again.Blessings,Rosemary
